STEAM and Whole-Child Focus
Providing Transformative Learning Experiences
At TMSA Triad Elementary, STEAM isn’t a class you take — it’s a way of learning and leading. We combine hands-on, project-based learning with a whole-child approach so every student grows academically, socially, and emotionally. Students learn to think like designers and scientists, collaborate like teammates, and lead with character.
Reinventing the Classroom Experience
We partner with Project Lead The Way (PLTW) to create engaging, real-world learning. Teachers receive ongoing training and resources, and students dive into authentic challenges that spark curiosity and build in-demand skills — from coding and engineering design to data collection and communication.
PLTW Launch (PreK–5): Amazing Discoveries Start Here
Your elementary learners already have the hearts of inventors. PLTW Launch taps that natural curiosity with interdisciplinary modules that feel like play but are grounded in rigorous standards. Students explore computer science, engineering, and biomedical science through activities and projects that connect to the world around them.
What students do in PLTW Launch:
-
Ask & Investigate: Pose questions, plan fair tests, and gather evidence.
-
Design & Create: Sketch ideas, build prototypes, and iterate.
-
Share & Lead: Present findings, explain thinking, and reflect on growth.
What students gain:
-
Strong foundations in science, technology, engineering, arts, and math
-
Essential skills: problem-solving, creativity, critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and perseverance
-
Confidence to take on new challenges in middle school, high school, and beyond
Whole-Child Development: Head, Heart, and Habits
We believe the best learning happens when the whole child is supported.
-
Social-Emotional Learning (SEL): Explicit lessons and embedded routines help students manage emotions, set goals, show empathy, and build healthy relationships.
-
Leadership & Character: Grounded in the 8 Habits and our “Tigers of Character” culture, students practice responsibility, respect, resilience, and courage every day.
-
Inclusive Supports: Differentiated instruction and data-informed interventions ensure each learner gets what they need to thrive.
-
Arts Integration: Creativity fuels understanding — students illustrate models, perform, compose, and design to demonstrate learning across subjects.
-
Family–School–Community Partnership: We team up with families and local partners to extend learning beyond the classroom.
How STEAM Comes Alive (Elementary Examples)
-
Engineering & Design: Build and test simple machines, bridges, and shelters; iterate to improve strength and stability.
-
Computer Science: Explore sequencing and algorithms, create interactive stories, and begin block-based programming.
-
Biomedical Science: Investigate how senses, structures, and systems help humans and animals function and stay healthy.
-
Data & Measurement: Collect data, analyze patterns, and present findings with clear visuals and math talk.
-
Artful Thinking: Use sketching, modeling, music, and movement to visualize ideas and communicate solutions.
Ready for What’s Next
Our STEAM and whole-child focus lays a strong foundation for PLTW Gateway (6–8) and high-school pathways. By the time students leave TMSA Triad Elementary, they are curious, confident, and ready to take on more advanced projects, competitions, and leadership opportunities.
